A few days ago, a key technology of the 150,000-ton waterway breakwater project in Yangkou Port of Nantong, Jiangsu Province--"Research and Application of Key Technologies for High-Performance Fiber Reinforced Composites and New Structures" passed the national "13th Five-Year Plan" key R&D project Implementation of the expert group for demonstration.

According to reports, the Yangkou Port 150,000-ton waterway breakwater contains two sections, east and west, with a total length of 6,000 meters. In this project construction, the longitudinal reinforcement and stirrups of the breakwater grid plate are made of fiber reinforced composite material. This material has the characteristics of light weight, high strength and corrosion resistance. It can be used instead of steel bars to eliminate the corrosion of steel bars. It poses a safety hazard and can solve some technical problems that traditional building materials cannot solve.

After reviewing the construction of the project on site, experts from Tsinghua University, Tongji University Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design and Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd. and China Communications Shanghai Port Engineering Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. all believe that this is used in marine engineering. The replacement of steel bars by a new type of material is one of the effective ways to completely solve the problem of corrosion. It is agreed that the technical project will pass the demonstration.

“The use of fiber reinforced composite materials as grid plates is the first large-scale attempt in the construction of offshore engineering in China.” Li Rong, the project leader and professor-level senior engineer, said that high-performance fiber reinforced composite materials are in Yangkou Port Waterway Project. The successful application has important reference and demonstration significance for the general promotion in the future.
