On March 18th, the first “Technical Specification for Carbon Fiber Composite Reinforcement and Repair Chemical Pipeline” was officially launched. The technical specification was drafted by Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Co., Ltd. and Harbin Institute of Technology. It is of great significance to the healthy development of the carbon fiber reinforcement industry.

The standard was reviewed by China Composites Industry Association and published on the national group standard information platform. It has clear requirements for material performance indicators, design methods, construction methods, inspection and acceptance methods for carbon fiber composite reinforcement and metal chemical pipelines.

The carbon fiber composite material repairing chemical pipeline technology has the advantages of short construction period, simple operation, and does not affect the normal operation of pipeline equipment during construction, and can avoid the safety hazard and parking risk caused by special operations such as electric welding and hot fire. As the technology is favored by more and more chemical production enterprises, the technical standards are not uniform, and the construction quality is uneven, which greatly restricts the expansion and application of the technology.

In the first time in 2015, Shanghai Petrochemical successfully applied self-produced carbon fiber composite materials to repair chemical pipelines online, and accumulated rich application experience in various petrochemical pipeline equipment reinforcement and repair projects such as liquid phase propylene, flare gas and methane hydrogen. Through long-term cooperation with the Harbin Institute of Technology in the field of carbon fiber composite reinforcement, the deep integration and support of the basic theoretical research and enterprise engineering practice of the university was established, which finally led to the introduction of the industry's first standard.
